I'm having problems with a scanner (Plustek), I can scan Text OK, but when scanning Negs and Photos I get a BLUE tinge over the whole image. I've tried contacting the maker but they're no help as the replies are in broken KorEngrish. Would this be a "cold cathode tube"problem? Hope theres someone with the tech knowledge reading this?
Thanks in anticipation,
Doug

Colt Cathode Tube (CRT) is used in monitors not in scaners :)

I don't work with scanners, what i do know is that not all scanners can scan negatives, some will need an special adaptor.

Maybe you have a lighting problem... Give it a scan and keep the scanners door open, do you see any flickering in the light?

It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice...

Not true, Cold Cathode is a type of florescent light. On regular room florescent lighting they heat the cathode up. Ever notice when a florescent light goes bad you see the cathode kinda glowing orange?

It could be the bulb but I would suspect it's a driver issue. Has the scanner always doen this or did it just recently start? You might try re-installing the drivers.

The florescent lights they use in scanners and monitors are cold cathode meaning they don't need the heater in the tube.

Thanks Kurt,
Scanner AND Software has been un-installed and Re-installed. Unit WAS working OK problem just started without warning.
Might have a look around and see if I can pick up a new tube from somewhere, it's worth a try as long as the tube isn't too expensive.
