Does this tell me the scanner is at the end of it's life?

Does the line allways appear on the same spot relative to the scanner?

It varies. Could be in different places, or does not show the line at all.

Try reinstallign the drivers for the scanner and also the software you sue to scan. Coudl jsut be a software glitch. if that doesn't help, run the scanner with the lid open so you can watch and see if it gets stuck or anyhitng while scanning.

The same thing was happening to me with a HP 3200, I found it when scanning in color but no problem at all when in Black/White, mine went from top to bottom about 3/4" wide, please post back any fixes you may find for this ...Thanks

Keep the old stuff running

I don't have any fixes for this. I think it has to do with a failing piece of hardward on the Scanner which is not worth getting fixed. I will try to get HP to give me their answer. If you would like to know what I find out, if anything, email chrismr@speakeasy.net

I have seen other people post elsewhere that cleaning the underside of the glass and the mirrors inside help. Try at your own risk. I am trying it on mine tomorrow.
