I have started to recieve bad cluster detections on when I have used scandisk through dos. How well does scandisk do in detecting bad clusters. When it starts to detect bad clusters does it mean that the hard drive is starting to crap out.

Scandisk does an excellent job and the chances are that your drive is going belly up. I assume you ran under dos standalone. You might want do a check of your RAM, just in case.
