Hello,
I am going on vacation and going mobile with my laptop. I want to save power on it, so I talked with a guy who said to turn the power saving option on in the power options and that laptops typically have a backlit, so I should turn that off. How do I do these two things???? I can't find it? How? Any other ways I can save power?

Well that's just great, I'm happy for you.

A: You have a vacation

B: You have "a laptop."

Tell us, which one of the possibly thousands of "laptops" that are out there, floating around the world, is the BRAND NAME and MODEL NUMBER of yours?

If you had, I might have (or might not have) been tempted to try and look it up for you.

But you didn't. Tell us, that is. The model number, that is.

so, tell us. "We" are holding our breath.

Do you have the owner's manual?

Have you read it?

Have you tried the "laptop's" support website?

(I use IBM Thinkpads, and they enjoy probably some of the very best online support of any.)

I have GOT to get some different medication.

Uh, yes I did do all of those. Just trying to get a simple answer.

Well as for power options in xp you should find that in the control panel/ classic style, it would be found in Power Options/ Power Schemes/ Portable/laptop Would be my guess.

I don't know about turning off backlit? How would you see the screen? I may be missing something there.

Why do you want to save power? Are you going to be using it in a car? If so you may look into a dc to ac power invertor, or another battery. I think a invertor would probably cheaper tho.

Well, is there such a product where I can plug my laptop into a outlet in the car? So yes, I will be in the car. Should I just ask the folks at best buy?

Yes that would be the dc to ac power invertor and Best Buys should have them. They usually plug into cigerette liter or some are hard wired. At least in the store in my town they do. Chances of finding one directly manufactured for your laptop would probably be a good long hunt + will probably cost much more than an invertor.
