I have a SATAII drive in my computer but it's never seemed to be particularly fast. I realise that these drives work in bursts and it is unrealistic to expect to reach transfer rates anywhere near the 3GB/s speeds in the SATAII spec. but I downloaded a program, Drive Speed Test, from eXhibition software, that runs several tests, one of which is drive overall read speed, which only seems to come in at around the 25,000KB/s mark. Is that actually all I should expect, or is there a possible problem here? I would be interested to hear what other people with a similar hardware setup get from running the program. I got it from http://www.gold-software.com/downlo...

SATA "drives" are no faster than their PATA counterparts. It is only the "interface" that has changed. The SATA interfaces can handle more bandwidth, but the drives are physically the same.

Summary: Have all the motherboard drivers been installed? One possibility is that the SATA drive is not using DMA. Go to the Device Manager and check the properties of the SATA drive. As an aside, there's a fr...
