I just bought an ABIT NF7-S v2.0 motherboard. It comes with a Serial ATA to EIDE converter named SERILLEL2. So I'm thinking I should take advantage of this connection since I have a CD-RW and 3 HDD's consuming all my EIDE channels. My questions are as follows:
Would hooking up an IDE HDD to this SATA converter be any better than hooking it straight to the IDE channel? and Which HDD should I put on the SATA channel? I have 3 HDDs a 20G 5400 ATA/66, 40G 7200 ATA/100, and 40G 7200 ATA/133. My mobo supports ATA/133 so I originally figured on keeping the ATA/133 HDD on its own IDE channel and discarding one HDD as to isolate the ATA/133 HDD speed transfer rate. I guess this is all too new for me to comprehend. If anyone understands these interfaces and would like to shed some light on it I would greatly appreciate the input.

From the reports and tests I've read, the SATA in real time is a bit slower than parallel ATA (although the potential throughput is greater). To compound this issue, connecting an EIDE drive to a serial interface slows the process even more. My suggestion is to keep things the way they are.borelli34

Hi Darkfriend
The converter should do the job fine, if you are not into heavy gaming and the 110 % performance is not an issue, than use your SATA converter.
The rule is always connect your fastest drive to any SATA or IDERAID or the fastets contoller on the mother board.
In your case the ATA 133 is the one to connect to the SATA controller.

Hi Dark and everyone else. I also have questions about this serillel2 adapter.
I just got an a-bit ic7-g mobo and it had this serillel2 adapter that works in conjunction with the sata controller by silicon image that is on the mobo.
My question is: Is it faster to use the serillel2 adapter or the promise pci controller i have?? Also, using this interface, is it TRUE 150mb/s SATA transfer or some type of emulation??
My specs: 160 gig ata 100 western digi harddrive. Promise pci ata 100 controller card. Onboard ata controller on the abit ic7 as well as the sata bus/es.
How should I hook this WD 160 gig drive up for best performance???
Any suggestions or responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks alot guys. -J
