Specs: Windows XP
ide mobo; ide hdd (20Gb); sata hdd (1Tb); sata/ide interface card (via) + cables (data & power).
connect all & switched on.
How do i make sata hdd primary master & ide hdd primary slave?
cannot connect sata hdd if interface card drivers not installed, & cannot connect interface card if hdd not installed.
result: sata drive not detectable.
When ide hdd installed, was able to install interface card drivers & only then sata hdd was detectable, but not as primary master, & unable to install anything to it.

The sata adapter ought to or needs to have a bios on it. As with scsi add on cards or build in scsi the drives are bootable. That only makes the system smart enough to load the OS drivers to get it up on the OS. It may show up in the mobo bios as scsi or other or maybe sata.

See the manufacturers site for info on if it supports booting from.
