Specs: Windows XP Pro
I am looking at a WD 1TB SATA 300 32MB CACHE 7200RPM HD #WD10EADS HD to use for storage and back up purposes. I am running a D865GBF MB. My concern is compatibility. I cant seem to find any info on my MB, and weather or not it can handle this SATA-300 HD. Also, can I use it as a slave, or would I be better off just running one hard drive. Thanks

The concept of slave and master does not exist with S-ATA drives. Each S-ATA drive has its own dedicated interface which is totally different than P-ATA where two drives share the same interface.

However, thirty seconds with Google, yes thirty seconds, brings up the following information:

So you can have two P-ATA and two S-ATA and they use completley different interfaces.

Thanks for the reply. I did use Google and go to this site, but it does not tell me if my MB is compatible with this HD, or doesn’t it matter? Also, can I mix the two types of hard drives on the same computer?

AS Stuart said, that page tells you that you have both PATA and SATA interface connectors, so you can connect 'either' or 'both' types at the same time.
