Hi all

I'm a geek but I'm puzzled by a problem a friend of mine has with his Dell 4700 (P4 3.0/2GB RA/250GB)
Despite that all settings seem to be correct the SATA I/O went one day and stayed to extremly slow ~ 2MB what normally would be around 43MB or more. Also the drive is too hot with 72 Celsius (162 Fahrenheit).
I addressed all issues but can not find the cause. Anyone have a clue?

What are the case and processor temps on that system? The drive can't run cooler than the case temperature. May be a PSU fan failure?

You may want to run a diagnostic on the drive to determine if it is failing.

If the PSU fan is ok, check the power supply inside vents to see if they are blocked with dust.
