I have a quick question here. I just need to know how I can find out whether my motherboard is compatible with a SATA hard drive. A SATA hard drive apparently requires a sata port or a sata pci card. I'd also like to know what motherboards I could get if the one I currently have doesn't comply with sata. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and I was trying to find some info. on my motherboard so in the meantime I was hoping to get some help here. Thanks for any help.

IIRC, the mobo in the Dimension 2400 does not support SATA. You can get a SATA controller card.
As for mobo suggestions, Intel or AMD??
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
Asus A7V600-X
512 MB of DDR RAM
GeForce FX 5200 (256 MB)
Seagate 120 GB SATA

Where could I get a SATA controller card? So with a SATA controller card I could then install a SATA drive in my Dimension 2400? As for the mobo suggestions, I happen to have an Intel Celeron.

Assuming you have an available PCI slot, go with a SATA controller card from Siig or Promise. Much easier solution. See links below.

On the other hand, if you're intent on a new motherboard with SATA, TigerDirect has all types from $30 to over $200; see link ....

Good luck,
