sata hard disk

i just got a new pc and i installed windows xp pro as usual having done it a million times and the hard disk only registers as being 127gb instead of 300, did i miss installing some sata drivers or something. what can i do to rectify this problem

There's a specific instruction with most SATA hard drives to specify the volume or other in the BIOS. I think the above website deals with that. You need to switch that setting in the BIOS otherwise the default maximum of 127GB will apply. The setting overrides this so that the size of the HD is more accurate.
Wish I could remember what the name of the setting is, but I don't have my BIOS settings to hand..
