Sata DVDRW burning issues

Original Message

Subject: Sata DVDRW burning issues
OS: XP Pro
CPU/Ram: AMD 3200 1gig
Model/Manufacturer: ASUS DRW-1814BLT
Comment:
Installed a new ASUS DRW-1814BLT burner and got it to show up and to lightscribe OK.
But IF i try to burn a Disc, it ALWAYS seems to get an error.
The previous IDE burner had No issues with burning like this.

What could be suddenly causing the error's?
From memory it was an issue with the Buffer or data speed.
Though SATA was faster than IDE ??

Anyone else had similar problems, and found a solution ?
I would be keen to get this solved.

SATA Rom drives and IDE Rom drives burn at the same speeds, they also transfer at the same max rate at 66mb. SATA Rom drives are a waste of extra money. There is zero performance gain using an SATA Rom drive over an IDE Rom drive.

Cobra is correct and the same goes for hard drives. The SATA interface has a higher 'potential' speed limit but drives haven't come close to approaching the IDE speed limit yet.

sata! had nothing but problems
i think mabye older mother boards dont expect to see a device like a cd burner on them.

my mate got a board 5 years ago with sata one of the first and one of the first with raid. he some how cocked up the instalation of the 1 hard drive and set it to raid 0+1. fast forward to last week he got a sata dvd burner whacked it in and the mobo i think saw the drive and tried to set up the raid. wiped the whole drive 200gb of photos and so on.

this is think was a catalog of errors first being he paid for raid and didnt know what it was. didnt know how to set up the drive. the raid controler was brand new and looked like it was tagged onto the bios.

so leasons to be taken.
learn what you are doing(he though building a pc was like lego?!?!? i blame plug and play for this itsmaking people stupid)
dont pay for stuff you know nothing about
and if its new technology wait till its matured before buying

all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.
google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that repl

This has been an issue for many people with the ASUS DRW1814BL. Once you use the lightscribe once, it will no longer lightscribe or see CD's, but will still burn DVD's. I've been in the ASUS forum checking it out and have not found a fix yet. Many are saying that it is a sofware conflict. Something to do with Nero 7.
