sata DVD writer to ide mother board with converter problm

Specs: Windows 7, 1 GB
I have purchased a sata DVD writer HP1260i & i tried to connect with my ide mother board through converter, But the DVD is not working. when I'm start the PC, the DVD was detected & after some time it was disappear.

Kindly help me to solve this problem......

Do not use a converter. Buy a SATA add-on card which fits into a PCI slot.
Then connect the DVD writer to the SATA port on that card.

Also add more memory, win 7 doesn't run well with 1gb of ram.

Or just get an IDE optical drive.

Assuming you cannot return the drive, get the PCI SATA card for best results.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
