Sorry this message will most likely be long, but I hope someone can help me. I have just put this system together and would like to install Windows Media Center on a new 250 gb Maxtor SATA drive. I believe I have the bios settings right (have disabled raid, and have the on-board Sata set to the enhanced mode). The post bios shows my 2 optical drives as IDE channel 0 master and slave, and the hard drive as IDE channel 2 master. (I have the 2 optical drives linked together in the IDE 1 slot, and the SATA drive in the first SATA slot). However in the standard bios section when the hard drive is automatically detected all information (cylinders, etc.) all state 0. I tried to boot from the windows cd and enter the Sil sata drivers with F6 and as soon as the files all loaded and the system gets to the screen where it says it is starting windows...I get the blue stop screen with the error message "Stop: 0x0000007F(ox00000000, etc)". Does anyone know what exactly I am doing wrong...I have had many sleepless nights working on this is driving me bonkers.
My Specs: Gigabyte GA-81915P duo rev 2
1 gb dual channel DDR2
Intel 3.2 gb
Nvidia Geforce 6600 512 MB DDR2
Maxtor Sata Ultra16 250 gb
Asus CD-RW
Sony DVD-RW
Trying to install Windows Media Center 2005

This is in regards to my first post.
I still playing around with it and I found out if I set the SATA drive to either IDE channel 2 or 3 slave, the setup goes a little bit further.
I can now press enter to set up windows, but then it comes back with a message that windows cannot find any hard drives on my system.I was just hoping that this little bit of information might be useful to someone trying to help me out.
Thanks so much..

Try this:
Optical drive set as Master on Primary channel on MB.
Sata on #1 Sata port.
In Intergrated Peripherals:
Sata Mode - IDE
On-Chip Serial ATA - Combined
Pata Mode - Secondary
I have an Abit MB, but an Award Bios so hopefully it will be simular.
Hope this helps.

You may have a defective MB as well. Gigabyte MB's aren't known for being reliable MB's either. Too many RMA's from other people for me to ever consider getting one.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 6800GT
SATA II 250gig 7200rpm 8mb cache
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

Again*
I had to return RMA mine, but considering I couldn't get my money back on it my only option was to get another one, which wroks fine.

Also, unless you're doing Raid, you dont have to press F6 for 3rd party drivers. WinXP has necessary drivers for Sata.

First of all, I would like to thank you "Raven55" and "Cobra_R" for trying to help me out.
Raven: I tried what you said with no luck.
In my bios, I don't have separate "sata mode" and "pata mode" to set to "ide" and "secondary" respectively. Unless I am missing it somewhere. What I have is "on-board sata" which I can set to "disabled" "auto" "combined" "enhanced" and "sata only". I tried each of these with different scenario's with the cd rom functioning as the master and slave drive.
I disconnected my second CD drive so I only had one as the IDE primary.
When I used the "auto" setting, I get the blue screen error message as I stated in my original post.
When I set it to "combined", "disabled", "enhanced", or "sata only", I get the no hard drive issue.I know you guys have done so much for me already, but could I please ask you if you have any other suggestions? This really has me baffled.
Thank you so much again!

I'd say RMA it and replace it with another one.
My motherboard had this problem where it would just shut off for no reason. So I replaced the PSU and it was still causing the same problem. After i ran a few test I found out their was a short in my motherboard. I replaced it and all is fine.
My guess is that you have a defective board. Like I said before, Gigabyte isn't known for being reliable motherboards. I found this out after I bought one. If I could have done it all over again I would have went with an Asus or DFI (SLI) motherboard.

Cobra-R has more experience with this board than I do.So,mabey he's right about RMAing it.I prefer Abit or Asus.
I looked up your owners manuel at the Gigabite website and as a last resort:
In Integrated Periphals:
Set Onchip Sata to - Combined (you want the grayed out area active)Enhanced might work also.
Pata IDE set to - CH1 Master/Slave
Sata Port 0/2 set to - CH0 Master/Slave
Plug Sata drive into "0" Sata port on MB
You want your HD to show up on Channel "0".
Onboard H/W Raid - Disable
Without having the computer in front of me I can only guess.I hope this helps. Good luck.

And again..thank you Cobra and Raven! Cobra, I am sadly beginning to think it is the board. It seems kind of odd to me that everything else on the board seems to work fine, but not the sata part of it. It is brand new and I thought it would have been a good one, but I guess I should have done some more research..I always thought Gigabyte was a decent name. Live and learn by your mistakes though.
Now, about other boards...I would like both of your opinions, if I may.
Price isn't really a factor, but I would like it to be. I need a board that will hold up to my kids gaming, and be compatible with my socket 775 intel, DDR2, my sata drive, well I guess you can review all my specs from the original post. I was looking earlier at Tigerdirect considering an "ABIT NI8 SLI" board.
Any opinions? Or any other suggestions about which board would be better?
Thanks again..I REALLY appreciate it...you both are dears.

Just about any Abit board is good. I have used an Abit AA8XE. It was a good stable board and easy to set up. And it will work with your computer parts.I got it from Newegg. I'm currently using an Abit Falta1y aa8xe. But it's more of a gaming board than every day. (No printer port)
Sorry I couldn't help you. Good luck with your new board.
PS: There are newer, more advanced boards out there but unless you're doing SLI or OCing I wouldn't go to the extra expense.

Here are a good one.
Under 120 bucks and it supports Dual Core as well since it's on the 945 chipset.

Raven and Cobra,
I have been looking at both of the boards recommended and probably have a stupid question. My CPU is an "Intel Pentium 4 Processor 640". Will it be compatible on these boards? The specs for the boards say "Intel Pentium D/Pentium 4 HT".Thanks again!
Mary

Your Processor will work with either of the boards suggested. (yours too)They are both socket "T" (LGA 775).My processor is a Pentium 4 660 and it will work fine in any of them. Good luck.

Any LGA 775 Intel processor will work with a 945 chipset motherboard.

Cobra and Raven,
Your never going to believe it, but I got the original system working! I feel like a bleeping idiot but there was a jumper that needed to be removed from the hard drive, it was so small and blended in with the case that I didn't even see it. Then I followed all of your advice on the bios settings and presto..there it was.
But I am running in a problem now, and I have about given up. The computer locks up constantly. I re-installed windows, it was difficult at times as it would lock up. Finally got it installed, then was thinking it may be a driver problem. Updated all drivers and downloaded all the windows updates.
The CPU is running 33-43C degrees, so that is okay. One thing I noticed, I installed Media Center 2005 edition, but in the control panel "system", it is showing up as version 2002. Do you know if that is normal for the media center edition?
Was just wondering if you had any ideas on what else could be causing the lock ups? Sometimes it happens as the windows first loads and I don't even click on anything, sometimes when I move the mouse to grab the slider bar, sometimes when installing things, sometimes just out of nowhere. It has me baffled. Oh, updated the bios too.
I ran Sandra but I don't really understand alot of the information that it gives, nothing seemed to really stick out at me though.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated
otherwise I will just take it to a computer shop and let them deal with it.
Thanks alot guys!
Mary
