I recently reformatted, and since then, I haven't been able to access my SATA drive. My motherboard is an ASUS A8V Deluxe.

I can't figure out what could be causing the problem. When my computer starts up it recognizes that "Samsung SP1614C" is plugged into SerialChan_01, yet the drive does not show up in the BIOS (rather a device called VIA K8T6420 shows up).

If anyone has any clues to what could be causing this problem, any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

XP Sata controller drivers for the motherboard? Maybe that's where I'm confused. I thought that because I was not using the promise controller that I did not need drivers. In the manual it hints that the drives will work with WinXP SP1 or higher, and does not say anything about drivers, nor does it include any on the CD or website.

Do I need to use the promise drivers even if I am not using the raid controller? And to install these drivers, must I do another install of Windows?

Sorry for being so ignorant on the topic, and thanks for anyone's help! Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays!

Also, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but in Windows device manager, it shows two RAID CONTROLLERS as unknown under the "Other devices" heading.

Also, the drive does not show up as a Hard Disk in the BIOS.

I reformatted again with the SATA Promise 378 drivers and still no luck.
