I was wondering if it is still necessary to install SATA drivers at the F6 prompt on Athlon64 systems? I will be running a single SATA II HD as the boot/OS drive.

Depends on the motherboard chipset. Many if not most motherboards today have "native" SATA support that do not require drivers. And, in many instances there are two sets of SATA ports - some are native to the chipset and some are added with an added controller chip. The latter would always require drivers. So, be sure to use the native SATA ports if there are two sets. Check your mobo documentation for more info.

An actual model would have been nice, but it appears that chipset does have native SATA.

From http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produ...
nForce 430 supports dual channel native SATA II controller up to 300MB/s

Thanks for the info Michael. The MB is a Foxconn 6150K8MD-8ERSH. The nvidia sata controllers support RAID 0,1, 0+1, and 5 with 4 SATA ports so I assume they must all be native. I guess I could have read the online manual to get that info. Somehow I missed that fact on nvidia's site.

No problem, but that info was actually from MSI's site in the details of one of their mobo's
