Hello,
I have a dual-boot system (WindowsXP home
& Linux), with LILO as bootloader. After
adding a SATA drive to the system, LILO
ended the boot process with an error
message:LILO - Timestamp mismatch
I learned from the web that this is due to a
bug in LILO: should use GRUB. So I installed
GRUB, and sure enough, during bootup, GRUB
presented the customary boot list.
I decided to start with WindowsXP - and all
hell broke loose: blue screen, scrolling of
tens of pages with file names, which somehow
were altered, restored, etc., etc. This
lasted for a couple of minutes.
After this, Windows was unable to boot
properly: it hung in the blue Welcome
screen, showing nothing else, and not
responding any more.Had to restore the C: partition from a backup (...).
Any clue to what happened here, as well as suggestions to do it right next time, are
greatly appreciated, Rob

Couldn't tell you precisely what happened, possibly bad sectors or some files got overwritten and corrupted or truncated but having that handy backup was a smart thing to do.
