Changing to SATA, a good idea? What benefits do I get?

BTW, what is the use of RAID? More secured? That's it? Can I switch to SATA without enabling RAID? I am a total novice to SATA.

Thanks in advance.

1)Maximum transfer rate of 150 MB/s instead of 133 MB/s.

2)Thin cable allows better air flow.

No you do not have to use RAID. If you want to use RAID, there are different types.
One type combines multiple hard drives into one (logically ofcourse) to increase performance. This type is not recommended if you have important data on your hard drive. Another type is for fault tolerance. As you use your computer, any programs you install or any files you download to the first hard drive will automatically be saved to the second hard drive incase the first drive fails.

Sata hard drives are much faster, quieter and far more maintenance and trouble free.
You can switch to sata without or with enabling raid (depends on motherboard), and your hard drive will still run as a hard drive.
best answer to what is RAID, is it is a hard ware solution to a software backup that involves alligning to equal sized hard drives where one mirrors the other for protection.

Sata drives have a potentially faster transfer rate, but at this time there is no difference in speed, reliability, or anything else. That is with the exception of the small cable.

If you're buying new equipment, I'd say buy SATA drives unless you have a reason to use PATA.
