Hi
I have to replace my HDD (250Gb Maxtor) because it has started to make a funny clicking noise which means that death is imminent. (Apparently - I have managed to find a multitude of postings to this effect, all regarding Maxtor HDD)
So, I'm trying to buy a Seagate 250Gb drive. I have only read good things about Seagate.
My question is this: The only "type" I can find is a SATA 150 or a SATA 300. The documentation on my mobo says it can handle 66, 100 or 133 - but doesn't mention any higher. (The Maxtor one I have says its 133)
I feel a right idiot about this stuff - just choosing an interface seems to be fraught with problems. Can someone explain to me, in words of one syllable, whether I can get a 150 or not? (My mobo is the MSI K8N Neo Platinum. I wouldn't recommend this board to anyone either!)
As ever - many thanks in advance
Tom

I think you'll find the 66/100/133 refers to the ATA/IDE hard drive connectors - your SATA should be good for 150 as standard, there may be a BIOS update to make the most of higher speed drives.
"I know that I'm mad, I've always been mad"

Yep.Your board supports sata,so will support that HD.
I have the 'Diamond' version of your board and would recommend it.
Tt Lanfire
MSI K8N Diamond

OCZ Powerstream 520w

WDCaviar 160gb sata x2;~}

I have a similar issue - my motherboard documentation specifically says that it supports SATA 133 but does not mention SATA 150. My MB is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe. will I be able to use SATA 150 hard drives, or does my MB support a standard that does not exist?
