Hi

I've got a problem with a Samsung CLP-300. In the last few weeks, seemingly without warning I am getting a huge black band down one side of the paper. It's the side furthest away from the Waste Toner Bottle. The first page is usually fine but if you print more the problem progressively worsens. The black band is clearly visible on the green(transfer?) roller inside the printer. The printer is out of warranty by 3 weeks(!) and thus cannot be repaired under it. Any suggestions? A picture of the problem is visible here: http://img397.imageshack.us/my.php?...

Problems like this are usually caused by a contaminated toner drum or fuser drum. However cleaning the toner drum has to be done very carefully. Over zealous cleaning can ruin it altogether.

First I would try cleaning the rollers, all of them as well as the entire paper path if you can get at it. The manual for the printer should tell you how to do it. Use denatured alcohol or methylated spirit, depending on what part of the world you are in, on lint free cloth.

If after cleaning the band re-appears you need to be thinking about the drum. That to can be cleaned in the same way as the rollers be very carful you do not scratch it otherwise its a new drum you will need.

Knowing how a laser printer works will help you work out what the problem is.
