LCD is not suitable for gaming. You'll be stuck with the LCD native resolutions so if I were you I'd forget about buying one. Read one of our recent thread HERE

I would politely disagree with XP this time. If you get the correct display with fast response times it will play games just fine. I am not a gamer but my son is. I don't believe with current games there is any requirement to play games in a fixed resolution. I agree that with LCD displays the absolute best picture will always be in the native resolution. I recommend the Samsung 710N or 710T. The difference is the T is Digital. Both of these displays have impressive specs. The response time is 12ns, which is faste enough for games without any artifacts. You WILL need a good enough graphics card to run these displays at native resolution at 32 bit color.

I'd recommend the Samsung 172x 17" LCD

You can find it at NewEgg, here: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-001-146&depa=0

It's about $420 and from what I've seen (as far as reviews) it is suitable for gaming.

The Samsung 172x is the monitor that I use, and I love it. But as far as gaming I could not be able to tell you how it does - I don't play games other than solitaire on this computer.

The response time of this monitor is 12ms so it's decent - there should be no ghosting.

I'd consider this monitor, look it up on Google and read some reviews - I came accross a review once where they tested to see how well it did with games. From what I remember it did pretty good.

Thanks OtheHill for bringing me up to date (or correcting me :-)) I always thought that LCD monitors are not suitable for any gaming outside its native resolution.

You are correct. LCD displays are not real good at anything outside thier native resolution. I have been told by my son, who plays all those shootem up games that you can run any resolution that you want to run, in those games. So I guess that you CAN run in native resolution.

Thanks, OtheHill. For this thread, the native resolution for a 17 to 19" LCD is 1280x1024 (SXGA).
