My Samsung SD-612S DVD ROM.

It reads CD's fine but can not read any of my DVD's. When i put a DVD in the led flashes and you can hear the drive trying to read the disc but nothing happens.

I have cleaned the lens with a CDROM cleaner but this did not help

Any ideas??

Did it work in the past or is it new?
If it is new connect as slave on HDD.
That fixed my Lite-On DVD-ROM.

I must buy all of the s---ty hardware or something.

I had one of these too. I believe the same model as you.

Inside the DVD rom, are TWO lasers. One to read the cd's, and a different one to read the DVD roms. They fire out of the same magnifiying lens so unless you open it (not adviseable) you will notice no difference.

Bottom line is, my DVD rom (Samsung) stopped reading DVDs but read CDs fine. The DVD lens had given up.

This could well be what has happened to yours. It is probably what has happened to yours. Send it back if in warranty. If not, you have a CD ROM now. Go get a combo DVD/RW.

P.S.

My DVD was less than 12 months old when this happened. I got it replaced.

Lucky me.

Well, I have to say, I have been very happy with my LG CD/RW and now I have a CD/RW/DVD rom combo.

I have Samsung RAM, but I would not buy another Samsung DVD or CD ROM.

LG seem to be a good make.
