Hi,
My computer's drives are configured as follows:
Pri Master-Samsung 20GB HDD
Pri Slave -Samsung CD RW
Sec Master-None
Sec Slave -Samsung SC152B CDROM driveThe Sec Slave (Samsung 52X CDROM drive) has stopped reading any media. I find that the drive is detected in the BIOS, is recognized during IDE detection during boot and is receiving power. On trying to read any CD from within Windows, I get a "F:\ drive is not accessible, device is not ready..Retry, Cancel" message. On trying to access the media from DOS shell, the msg changes to "Not reading drive F:..Abort, Retry, Fail." msg.
I have uninstalled the device from the Device Manager, had Windows reinstall the drivers (F/ware rev BS02), chosen IDE detection in BIOS but issue persists. The jumper is set to Slave mode. I have checked for loose/undone cables but NOT tried attaching the drive to another IDE channel. Any suggestions in this regard are welcome..
Ty,
Michael :-)

Do you have another cable to try? Here are some other things you can try as well:
swithch the ide's on the mobo
set your sec slave as sec master(make sure you change the jumper to master)

The drive is probably defective but to make sure this isn't a Windows problem try booting to that drive.

Try changing the configuration:
Pri Master - Samsung 20GB HDD
Pri Slave - Samsung SC152B CDROM drive
Sec Master - Samsung CD RW
Sec Slave - NONEAlways use the Master or Slave jumper...do NOT use Cable Select!
