There are two NVIDIA 8600 GT video cards that I found online. I was wondering if they are the same or not. The first one I found online is on the bestbuy website the NVIDIA 8600 GT Professional Series and the second one I found is on newegg the NVIDIA 8600 GT. The professional series costs twice as much as the regular one. I have been looking at the specs and it seems that they are pretty much the same. On the professional series it didnt really have much info on the specs it just says that its a 1GB, DDR2 memory, and 540MHz core clock. when I look at the regular one it also has the same specs as the professional series and it also shows alot more. Im just wondering why the professional series would cost twice as much as the regular one when they are basically the same or is the professional one really better then the regular one. Even if the professional one costs more I know I can just buy the regular one and OC it up to the professional one and save over $200. I plan to buy two of these video cards so I wanted to know what is the difference between the two, is the professional really better then the regular or is it just the brand name that makes it costs so much. Here are the links to the video cards.

Why are you buying a lower end card with 1GB memory? And why would you buy a card with GDDR2 memory when GDDR3 is SO much better? And to top it all off, why would you pay $100, let alone $200 for a card that is sinking lower & lower in the performance rankings? An 8600GT w/512MB GDDR3 is a $50 card...there's no way the same card using slower memory (even though it's 1GB) is worth twice as much. 1GB on such a card is nothing more than a gimmick.

You can get a Radeon HD3850 w/512MB 256-bit GDDR3 memory for less than $75 that would simply blow the 8600GT out of the water. If you wanna spend a little more & get even better performance, you can get a 9600GT or HD3870 for right around $100. Or for a little more than that, you could get an 8800GT.

Have a look at this performance chart showing the 8600GT (w/GDDR3) vs HD8350 vs HD3870 vs 8800GT (give it a chance to load):

Jam is the man when it comes to graphics cards. That said, the answer to your question is this. The bestbuy is a better card with GDDR3 mamory while the Newegg card has GDDR2.

Links to the complete specs on both are below.

Is there a complete list of all NVIDIA geforce video cards that is 1GB memory, 256bit/128bit, and 128/112 stream processor? I have noticed that the NVIDIA website only posts up the very first ones that came out. There are a few video cards that is the same as the other series but its not on the NVIDIA website. For example they show a 8800 GT with 512MB memory, 256bit, and 112 stream processor and I have found on other websites that they have a 8800 GT with 1GB memory, 256bit, and 112 stream processor. If anyone can give me a complete list that would be great.

Your comparison is another classic example of why Worst Buy is arguably the store for hardware suckers.

As you can see, the two cards are basically the same, yet the B&M retailer's item, cost twice as much as the online retailer's. Because the B&M store's markup typically include overhead expenses such as retail space leasing, utility bills, advertising, distribution & shipping costs, labor & other misc. service expenses so as to maximize their overall profit margin.

See this GPU Database.

What is it that you don't understand?? 1GB is a gimmick for suckers who know little about video cards & you're walking right into it with your eyes wide shut! There are only a handful of cards that can make full use of 1GB & they are on the extreme high end. The 8600GT does NOT qualify.

What are you using your system for that makes you think 1GB video memory would be required?
