Hi, i know this is a petty question, but i just wanted to know if it is safe to leave a pc switched on for days on end? I have a P3 500Mhz 256MB Ram 60Gb + 16gb HDDs, It is mainly left on for the sole purpose of downloading large files or using it as a juke box to play music through my hi-fi whenever i want. The monitor however is always turned off when not in use but i never turn the tower itself off. Any advice appreciated.

make sure you have a firewall in place...computers left on all the time are targets.
When I bought my computer in march/april of this year...i didn't turn it off until around june.
it's ok to leave it on, but just know you're using power...plus you have to take into account the wear on your parts...like your hard drive will be spinning longer than usual (esp. since ur downloading files), etc.

Think about this...the computer you're connected to is turned on, isn't it? For that matter, where would the internet be if everyone turned off all the computers peridically. So, yes, it's ok..in fact, one school of thought is there is far less stress on all components if it's left on, rather than subject them to the cooling and reheating when a system is powered off. Mine gets turned off only if I'm away for 24hrs or more, otherwise it stays on.
