I'm looking into a Maxtor OneTouchII 250 or 300GB which I'll use to store media, videos, music, etc. Since I've usually got my WMP playing music and videos around the clock, will it be a good idea to keep it on 24/7, or will I have some serious cooling issues?

No time for love, Dr. Jones!

I don't usually run my Maxtor One Touch 160GB HDD 24/7 but I've had it on for more than a week and have had no problems with cooling issues.

My WD 100GB External HD has been running 24/7 continuously since 2002. I yet have to see a problem.

I have left my external drives on for long periods with no problems, but generally prefer to leave them off until needed in case of a system failure.

I don't want to take any chances at all of it doing something to my backups.
