I've heard so many people talking about how AMD processors are better for gaming and Intels better for professional work. What's the best high-end AMD processor right now for good gaming performance? I've heard anything beyond the AMD 64 3200+ is good for gaming. And if you run office applications or AV/antispyware applications on AMD processors, do they crash or something after a while? I want to know this because I want to upgrade my system for an "overall" performance feel and is it worth spending a little less money and getting an AMD processor rather than an expensive Intel Pentium. Thanks.
1.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4
1.0 Gb of RAM, WinXP proSP2
Gigabyte mobo, 350 W PSU
Radeon 9600 256mb AGP8x
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
HP CD R/RW
LG DVD burner

I run a AMD Atlon64 3200+ and it runs everything I will ever need. I play games, I use Graphics programs Music and DVD apps and have no problems. I run anti virus,Antispyware and Adware and a host of on-line virus scanners with no problems. Adobe Photoshop,Paintshop Pro and Microsoft Plus Digital Media Edition with no problems.

Hi
dont be too suprised if there isnt a straight forward answer, AMD 3200 + are suitable for the current crop of games/ apps, even older AMD cores are suitable, otherwise ppl wouldnt buy them.
And suprisingly so are Intel P4 3.2.
You will have to look beyond the Intel vs AMD, Mhz /performance and include graphics cards RAM type and motherboard, any poor choice can make or break a Gamers pc.
for apps theres very little in it imo, build to budget.if you need to compare VGA Pci-e Gpu ,CPU score check out the links at www.tomshardware.com

Spyware doesnt crash AMD any better than on Intel, Ive yet to see office 03 crash.
