Hi,
I'm running an ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV with 32MB ram. I want to know if I can run another Video card (like a 256MB in a PCI slot). I would like to use them alternately, (enable/disable 1 a the time in Windows). I just don't want to pay big bucks to get a new A-I-W, but play games requiring more video ram. Is this possible?

I'm sure you are thinking along the lines of SLI mode, unfortunately it is NOT practical in your case.

If you want to play games that require more video ram, you need to buy a card that meets that requirement.

Having 256MB on a PCI card is absolutely useless. Is this card big bucks? It's certainly better than any PCI card you'll find:

mabey not the drivers may play up unless they both use the same core your motherboard may get upset too. however motherborads with onboard dont get upset. rember pci express isnt plain old pci. as for that coment on it being usless. pfffff the reason they went to agp was the bus size was bigger and the same core would run faster. then they went to pci express. pci is still good just limited by the bus speed. but as for 256mb thats alot and if you can find a card that big hats off to you. but it wont be usless infact it may use the mem to pre chachie it to speed it up. jam sounds like a gmaing script kiddie :-P

Hey lordman, what rock did you crawl out from under? Post some links that show 256MB video memory is beneficial on the PCI bus.

Just to give you something to think about, here's a clip from a recent review of the Geforce 7300GS PCI-E video card:

"Both cards, naturally, feature the same specifications. 256MB models will also apparently be available, but you'd be hard pressed to find real justification for a low end card with such memory...."

Seems to me if it's hard to justify 256MB on a low end PCI-E card, the same would hold true on the lowly PCI bus?

Slinky,

If you didn't check the link I posted yesterday, you missed out on a great deal. It was a Radeon 9600XT 128MB AIW AGP card on sale for $80. Unfortunately, the sale's over & it's back up to $130
