If i want to connect two same computer via RS232, how do i do it? How do i generate one of the pc to be 'talking' and the other to be 'listening'? Will be using HyperTerminal for the communication.

While I have never attempted this, I do talk to other equipment with Hyperterminal. If you have not yet, I would configure each PC to the same configuration (ex. 9600 Baud, 8 bit odd parity) You should then be able to communicate to each other. Just out of curiosity, what are you trying to do? I am actually signing off as I fly back home from a business trip. So if you want/need more info from me, it will be a while before I respond back.

The main objective is to "listen" to the line produced by RS232. This whole thing that i am supposed to do is to actually understand RS232 better. I am not sure what is the next step after connecting null modem cable between the two pc and running HyperTerminal. What do i type in the HyperTerminal to "listen" to the line generated? Thanks alot for your help.
