router versus hub or switch

If In use a router to connect three computers to the internet over a cable connection, do I still need a hub to network these same comps together or does a router do double duty? Where does a switch fall into place with these? Which would be the easiest to set up so I can have internet access and still be able to share files and printer. Right now I have 2 comps and my main comp has to be on for the 2nd to get online, but all I'm using is a hub and ICS when I connect directly from modem to hub I can't get online so I believe I need a router or a switch???
