Generally one port is shared with the uplink port. Uplink is a port you can use to add a switch/hub to increase the number of users. There may be a switch to toggle between normal & uplink.

Did you read your instructions? That should be explained in there.

To further explain, Your router is actually a router/switch. As a switch the packets should be managed. An auto-switch "directs traffic". If you have 4 ports on the router, for instance, the auto-sensing circuitry will allot time to each port. Depending on how sophisticated the hardware you might be able to shutoff or throttle one or more of the ports. That would allow more speed to the remaining ports. Uplink port might not be throttled at all. Many variables in play. Some hardware may not have any of the described features. Professional switches are much more expensive because they do have those types of features.

I am by no means a networking expert so if other members here find major errors in my answer please feel free to correct.

Is there a switch for port #1? If so, set it for regular as opposed to uplink. Or don't use #1 at all.

Did any software come with the router? Is the router a wireless model too?

Sometimes simply re initiating the router will straighten out a problem. There may be a hole or button to re initiate. If not, unplug for about a minute.
