I recently ditched my PCI Broadband modem (for which I never had any problems with FTP) and got a Linksys ADSL 4 Port Router (The WAG54G model). I configured the Firewall settings to enable me to get stealth on the most common ports. A few of the remaining ports are replying to requests but they reply with 'Closed' which is the best I could do. In addition I have ZoneAlarm on my computer.

Anyway, I noticed soon after attaching my router that my FTP software (that worked fine before) now takes ages to list directory structures and transfer files. Sometimes it fails to transfer them at all and either shows the files as 0 bytes or just not at all. I've tried with 4 different FTP programs and the effects are always the same which is why I think it's the router.

I can always login without any problem. 50% of the time I can browse through the folders without delays, but then the other 50% I have to wait 30 seconds or so. But whenever I try to transfer, only about 10% or 20% of the time do they successfully complete.

Incidentally, I've even disabled the firewall settings on the router but the problem persists.

Does anyone know what might be causing the problem and how I could correct it?

Thanks a lot

No. I read a lot about not doing that unless you really have to. Do you think it could help?

I fixed it. You were right - was the firmware. I downloaded the latest version (firmware file WAG54GV2 AnnexA ETSI (EU) v1.00.47.004) from the Linksys website as follows :

http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=62

Others who are having this problem be sure to check that your WAG54G is a V2 model and European (if you in the UK). I didn't at first, and was trying to flash using the wrong flash for my model. Idiot! It has corrected my FTP problem suffice to say.

Thanks for your help people.

Ted
