I have A Mac and PC connected to my wired router and an access point connected to it used for PC laptops and apple notebook. the routere is Netgear RP614 10/100 Mbps and the access point is Buffalo 11 Mbps I thought I would notice a difference in speed between the 10/100 and 11 connections but haven't noticed anything yet. I have been temted to upgrade my access point butt need a good reason which I haven't found yet. I'm looking for advise from an expert in the field.

Assuming your wired network runs at 100Mbps, you should see a significant difference in speed between the wired side and the wireless side when transferring large files. If you upgrade your access point from 802.11b to 802.11g, and you also upgrade your wireless devices to "g", you will see a difference in file transfer speed (just one "b" device on the "g" network will slow everything down to "b" speed).

However, having said that, if all you need to do is surf the web, then 802.11b should be fine.

Thank you steigrafx. I see no difference surfing the net and maybe none in downloading. I have a 2MB server, will bigger download files make a difference or is that controlled by my server. Question, as transfer speed normally goes down to 2 Mbpsd, will that do for one or two wireless cvomputers in a home network, 54, 108,125 is that needed for muliple computers in an office enviroment?
