riser modem slot????

Hi all Right let me explain I have just acquired a Pentium 3 600 MHz 128meg ram 20 gig 7200rpm cc820 mobo Creative labs ct6980 agp graphics card
The mobo has a riser slot and I have a riser modem but cant get them to work?
i think the riser is from a amd mobo would that make a diffrence?
