Restoring DVD drive on my comp?

Specs: Windows xp
When I originally bought my computer I had a working DVD drive, but then I had to have my computer wiped clean because of viruses. After the wipe, the DVD drive no long works and I lost the startup disks in a recent move, my question is, am I screwed or can I make it work again?

You haven't provided enough info. We have no idea if you have a hardware problem or a software problem. Obviously if the drive is bad, it will have to be replaced. DVD burners are "throw away" items. They cost less than $20 at newegg.
