Hi i have a 1995 Gateway. I am locked out of the computer because i do not have the BIOS password. Some suggestions have been to reset the password jumper on the motherboard. I don't know how to do that so if anyone can explain to me how to do that. And assume i know nothing about computers, please explain what a jumper looks like and how i go about reseting it.

they are normaly by the cmos battery some main boards have them marked they can be two solder joints or a set of jumpers that you will have to short either with a screwdriver or shunts
Just download a program called KILLCMOS & copy it to a floppy. Boot into DOS, pop in the floppy & run the program...it will reset the BIOS settings to their defaults & also erases the password.

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

Hi, Usually the reset header is 3 pins with a small Plastic, usually black about 1/4" tall and 1/16" thick, two pin jumper. Run position is usually with the jumper on pins 1 and 2. Turn off or disconnect all AC power from the PSU. Removing the jumper turns off the battery. Placeing it on pins 3 and 4 discharges the CMOS circuit capacitors to reset the BIOS SETUP. After a moment put the jumper back on Pins 1 and 2 and reboot the machine. If it's actually a BIOS Password you should be in business. Goodluck, Jim

if you cant find the jumper, i believe uplugging from power supply and removing the silver coin battery on the motherboard (if it has one) will have the same result. Leave battery out overnight, not just one minute
