about a year ago i bought a toshiba portege 3010 ct from e-bay, and i have been happy with it ever since. that is, until i decided it was time for a bigger hdd. i bought one, installed it, started up the machine, entered my supervisor password, and then - surprise - was asked for a hdd pasword. which, as far as i remember, i never set on the notebook and which certainly no-one set on the hdd, which is brand new.
so far, i have
-tried all my usual bios and startup passwords
-tried to get into the bios setup, but although i have a valid supervisor password, i never get there
-removed the cmos battery (at least i think so, i unplugged the only thing that looked like it)
does anybody have any ideas what this is about, or how i could reset the pwd? loosing the data bothers me less than not being able to use the notebook.

// this is confussing why would you be concerned to lost the data on a harddrive that is new? are you taking about the old hardrive now you put back in as a master and you cant even enter it now?

Reply: (edit)david ! cheers, yes, indeed, i lost that bit in my reconstruction: when i put the old drive back in, i was locked out of that, too. same thing: i get past the start-up login, put nowhere further.
