Solved Requested to insert CD disc which is already in drive

Hewlett-packard / Officejet 6210
December 15, 2015 at 07:39:45
Specs: Windows 8.1
I am asked to insert a disc when there is one already in place wehter the tray is in or out
My PC = Pavilion 23 - f311ea - HP..
HP is asking me to go back to manufacturer's default setting but I wonder if I need to take such drastic action.I have tried to look into drivers but I am no expert and got nowhere.
Can anybody suggest a solution, pease? Thank you.

About the only thing I can suggest is to run System Restore (which keeps your own stuff) to a date before this problem came along:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windo...
You will need to re-install any programs or Windows Updates that have come along since that date.

If that doesn't help then most likely the CD/DVD unit itself has failed and needs replacing. To me, this seems the most likely cause of the problem but try the Restore first.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Did the computer just suddenly ask for a disc or is there some fault that you are trying to fix? Give us as much background as possible - it seems as if you are in the middle of something which we don't know anything about.

Can you get into Safe Mode:

You don't need special drivers for a CD/DVD drive.

"I am asked to insert a disc when there is one already in place"

What disc is in place?

EDIT: just check the specs. All-in-one unit? Yuck.

Thank you.
I play scrabble every morning and used a CD which I always left in the drive. Suddenly, one morning after I clicked on the scrabble icon a small window popped up asking me to insert a disc. After a few tries with the same outcome i replaced the disc with another disc and it was just the same.
I can hear a noise in the unit at times and it sounds as it was trying to start over and over again,
Everything else on the computer (16 months old) works fine.
Little else that would seem relevant.

possibly the you could try getting a cleaning disc to clean the lens inside the cd player or make sure there are no scratches on the cd itself.i had one one time i used to play hoyle solitiare on just go bad after awhile. You might see if it will work in another different computer to see if its the disk or the cd unit itself. If its the unit there pretty cheap and not hard to replace yourself/

Thank you for the help. The cleaning disc may be a good idea,
The problem is not with the disc itself as I tried a different one and the problem was the same.

It is possible the disc unit itself has failed, although this doesn't usually happen in just 16 months. Worth trying the cleaning disc as suggested.

Does the CD/DVD drive show?

Yes, it does show!
I will go and get a cleaning disc and let you know what the outcome is.
Thank you again!

I have bought a lens cleaner and placed it in the unit. It made a few noises but did not show any instructions on the TV screen. I then clicked on the scrabble icon once I had put the CD back in and it still asks me to insert a disc. Same outcome with any disc in fact.
So this solution was not the one and I wonder if there is another suggestion that would solve my problem, please.
Thank you for any feedback.

Thank you for help received from various people.
The restore solution is probably not possible now as the problem arose a couple of weeks ago and the computor has been much used since.
I will get somebody to look at the CD/DVD unit now and hope that it will be it.

Thanks for the feedback.

Most likely the restore point will still be there if you should decide you want to try it. You can check without actually doing it.
