I need to replace my mobo in a sony vaio pcv-rx660 desktop. It has a Asus P4B266-LM oem mobo & I dont want to pay Sony $$$ for their replacement board. Asus has a P4B266-M
that has similar ports and slots a lot cheaper. Should I go for it?

I would. I would rather use my own boards than a companies, usually because they bundle so much stuff into it you always run into problems. Just make sute it is an ATX MB

Make sure the case connnectors are not *joined* and are not incompatible with any mobo. I recently tried to upgrade a compaq, and the front inputs were in a single *connector* that had everything included (pwon, reset, hled, floppy light, pled, ect)....making the case useless for a new mobo.,

Check before you buy.

Good luck

Interesting I have a old Compaq 5225 and it also uses a nonstandard power supply and connector setup. Instead of two power connectors for the AT it has three but not the three where one is a switch. Which makes it hard to replace. I have seen people on Ebay bidding +$80 for a used power supply. This because Compaq does not sell replacement units for it. I have read where Dell computers also use nonstardard stuff. Any one know if this true.
These people must really lover their computer. To pay this much when they could almost have a new computer for a few dollars more.
