I have an IBM Thinkpad I series with a broken CDROM drive. I want to put another drive in.
Is there a standard size for laptops in general, or do I have to get specifically a Thinkpad replacement ONLY?

Also, can I get an OEM drive mail order, and if so, who would you recommend.

Thanks

Okay, I see plenty of CD drives on PriceWatch.com, but I need help choosing the right drive that will fit.

This one seems to be a very good candidate.
Does anyone agree, or disagree.

I don't know if there's a "standard" size or not, but it's gonna be pretty hard to check unless you tell us your thinkpad model and type number.

Have you been to IBM support?

If you "Google" this part no. you'll get a lot of hits that it seems to be for the 390XX series Thinkpads

as in here:

If you DO find one you'll need to go to IBM and find and download the "hardware maintenance manual" and you'll need a few small tools--jewelers drivers--to work on that laptop.

You might also take this opportunity, if you use that laptop some, to think whether you could use a "burner" in there instead.

Hi name

Sorry, I should have given the model info before.
It's the IBM ThinkPad "I Series" Type 2621

I found this..

That one looks good, now I haven't kept up with prices, so you might find a better deal. If you can find someone who has something interesting, I'd try and phone them--or look up the specific drive to make sure it's compatible.

Yep, I will check around for other compatible
drives at better prices. As well, I better take a look at that IBM manual from their site. I don't want to go into this blind.

Thanks name
