Okay, I replaced my old $3000 computer with a newer computer on budget last year. Both computers make a ton of noise.

Anyways, heres what I have now:

Case:

ASUS P5B-E Motherboard

ATI Radeon X1300 Video Card

Okia 600W Power Supply

2 Fans on case (noiseless)

Now, here is my problem. My computer is very LOUD. I need this computer to record music and I can't have the computer's noise coming through the microphones.

Now, my ATI card makes a ton of noise. Is there a higher end card which does not make noise at all? I mean if I am playing games, then yes, it should turn on the fan and make all the noise it can (at least I would know the card is working properlly if it does this) but I mean my ATI x1300 Video card's fan is on ALL THE TIME and I don't know how to turn off the fan when the computer is like, idle and is not doing anything.

Other than that, if i unplug the fan, the computer is quiet, but it still makes noise. should i replace the case or the power supply or something?

What should I replace in my computer so that it becomes like a quiet computer? My comptuer is custom built and isn't a name brand computer, like a Dell or a HP.

The X1300 is a low end POS, not a gaming card. As aegis pointed out, there are cards available that are fanless. However, most of the heatsinks or heatpipe setups are HUGE! For example:

How's your PSU for noise? Okia is not a particularly good brand.

You probably should have selected hardware components based on sound levels. CPU coolers can be a major source of sound in a computer. Virtually all vendors spec out the DBs of their coolers. You just need to learn what the numbers mean. Same goes for case fans. Generally speaking larger diameter fans will yield the same cooling at lower RPMs. This equates to less noise. PSUs sometimes state what size cooling fan. Some have intelligent fans that run based on temperature. You can buy case fan with speed controllers attached. Using them to get acceptable temps with minimal RPMs.

Generally speaking if someone makes hardware that is quiet they advertise that fact.

Mid-range silent card:

Slightly more powerful (than mid-range) silent card:

Low-end power supplies are usually quite noisy. You can do your ears (as well as your computer) a favour by picking up a quiet, efficient power supply from Antec, Corsair, Enermax, or Seasonic. Quiet power supplies often use 12 cm or larger fans.

I use Antec TriCool fans in my system. They're 3-speed fans that can (usually) cool systems even at their lowest speed. And at that speed, you can barely hear 'em.

It may be helpful to determine where the majority of the noise is coming from. You can use a papertowel tube to your ear or better yet a wrapping paper tube. Remove the side cover and hold near each moving part, one by one. Do not touch anything but getting close will show you which hardware is noisy. Try it.

Well, I am pretty sure its my Video card as well as my Power Supply. I removed my video card fan for lik 2 minuites to find out whats making the noise and I am finding out that theres still noise comming out of my system, so I think its that OKIA PSU, which I payed an extra 60 dollars for when my previous OKIA PSU died on me last summer.

I may consider getting a decent 600-700 Power Supply and a Fanless HD 3850 or 3870 Video Card, if it is even possible to get a high end video card without a fan.

I described a dependable way to isolate the noise. Did you try it?
