I have a Tyan MB with SiL 3114 RAID chip. I am using RAID 1. I want to replace one member with a new drive and am unsure how to go about it. As I recall, if I delete the current RAID set I lose all data so do I just replace the drive and choose to rebuild the set - will that work?

Yes, just replace the drive. The process of rebuilding the array will depend upon your setup. You might need to do it within the BIOS or you may be able to do it within an application within Windows. Check your MB documentation for intstructions.

Michael,
Thank you for the response.
There are no instructions on rebuilding a RAID in the docs which is why I was asking here.
I have another question: If I use a larger drive, will the rebuild simply create a partitions on the new drive the same size as the source drive and leave the rest unpartitioned?

Well if you were to have actually listed the model of your motherboard it would be easier for people to give you more detailed help. Even if the instructions don't say how to rebuild an array, there should hav been something to tell you how to access the RAID controls. That's where you would start the rebuild process.
The rebuild process will not start automatically (unless you already set up a spare disk for the array). So you will need to go through the same steps you went through to build the array in order to start the rebuild process.
Yes, if you use a larger disk it will only use the space equal to the smaller disc. The remaining space will be unusable.
