I got a AGP video card XFX GeForce 5500 and found my Dell 2400 has no AGP port, so I bought a new motherboard "MACH SPEED P4 MDPT MATX" come with AGP port.

Could any one guide me to replace the motherboard?

You made one mistake, then compounded it with another. You should have simply returned the AGP card & gotten a PCI card. The FX5500 isn't all that great anyway & is one of the few still available in PCI format.

There's no guarantee that your new motherboard will work. You're gonna have to somehow verify if the power supply (PSU) used in your Dell is a "standard" unit or proprietary to Dell motherboards. If it's proprietary, the PSU will have to be replaced as well. Not only that, but WinXP will have to be reinstalled after the motherboard swap...but if your Dell came with recovery CDs rather that the retail version of WinXP, the recovery CDs will be useless.

You have a real mess on your hands. The easiest way around it would be to return the motherboard & return/exchange the AGP video card for the PCI version.

Thank you!

I couldn't return the AGP card because I sent UPC for rebate right after I got it. The motherboard is Free After Rebate except $7 shipping.

I have a brand new power supply on hand. The Dell I have did come with recovery CDs, but I bought another system for my son last year came with retail Windows XP Professional version and many other CDs.

Would these be helpful for rebuild the system?

The Dell PSU "may" be OK...no point in changing it if you don't have to, but as I said, you have to somehow find out if the Dell PSU is a "Dell Only" proprietary unit.

As for the question about the retail XP CD...uhhhh, technically, it "should" only be used on one PC because of Microsoft licensing rules. Using it on a 2nd PC is "illegal". Of course, if it's only to be used for, ahem, "evaluation purposes", it's OK ;)

I don't want to do the 'illegal' thing. I gave up for replacing the motherboard. Instead, I got more stuffs.

I have the 478 motherboard, 350 power supply, 160 hard disk, and I just ordered a Window XP Home sp2. I also have an old IBM optiva Pentium III.

Now I'm trying to build a new system. I know I need a new CPU P4 478 2.66Ghz or 2.8Ghz supported by my M/B. Can I use the old tower from IBM machine? Any more things I need for building the new system? Is the power supply good enough?
