Specs: Windows XP
The CD/DVD writer does not work, power is there because the light shows, when you open the drive to remove the disc it is turning slowly so some thing is happening. As I want to reformat the hard drive I need to be able to boot from CD. Can anyone help.

The drive motor might be faulty. That would require a new optical drive to be fitted.

Thank you for your reply to my problem, I have now succeeded in removing the DVD drive and ordered a replacement, hopefully this will allow me to boot from CD. However can I ask you another question, this laptop was given to me because of the DVD problem but also with a few other problems, being very slow and no lights on the front of the machine such as power, HD activety, battery charging, etc. Although they are not life and death problems it would be nice if you could put some light on these problems. Thankyou again for your interest. Keith
