This laptop only boots when the motherboard is removed from the case. I ordered a m/b w/o cpu, now i need to get the cpu off the old m/b. There are two extensions on the slot marked with a lock and an unlock, but no retention arm. I tried pushing as hard as i dared towards the unlock side but decided to ask you guys before I destroy the cpu. Thanks Bob

You must unlock the zif {zero insertion force} socket to get the cpu out.I haven't seen one without the lever arm but ,you would be going for the unlock position. Is there possibly a screw in that area you loosen?

The only laptop CPU I've ever removed has been a Socket7, but 370 ought to be the same. It was locked into the socket by being forced sideways into it. And there was a small plastic insert that had to be removed before you could remove the CPU. Once the plastic insert was removed, I used a small screwdriver, and rotated it between a reinfrocement on the side of the CPU socket, and the edge of the CPU to force it sideways in the socket. The first time I did it, it made me nervous because it required a surprising amount of force before it popped loose in the socket.

Thanks It did come out. I thought I would break it by prying on it with a screw driver, but it slid sideways and unlocked. Bob
