removable ide vs sata converter

I have bought a removable drive caddie,, Kerwin something or other (ide) so I could swap my old IDE hard drives in and out of my machine. Great,, works like a charm,, except I have to power up the unit and restart, Not that big of a deal,, but....
If I get an ide to SATA convertor and plug the drive tray into an extra SATA port,, will the drive tray become hot swappable?

correct me someone if i'm wrong, but isnt the only hot swappable technology USB, Firewire, and SCSI?
