I want to buy a new laptop. I want to know out of HP,Toshiba,Dell and Acer which brand is most reliable hardware wise which will last me for 5 years atleast? I have been using Toshiba laptop for 5 yrs now.The use strictly is professional [medical]. The configuration I am looking upto is Core 2 duo,160 GB, atleast 2GB of RAM, 15 inch screen [minimum].Secondly, I want to use both Windows XP [my medical software is only XP compatible and not vista] and Vista on two of the partitions on the same machine. Is it possible or impratical? Thanks for your guidance!

If you have had such good luck with Toshiba why would you consider switching brands? As far as Vista not being compatible with your medical software it will evendually be compatible. By then WinXP support may end or at least wane. Why not just stick to WinXP for now. You stated this is strickly a professional machine. What is the need for eye candy? See if Toshiba will install WinXP on the laptop of your choosing and use it that way until your software is compatible with Vista and at that time you can upgrade.

I agree with OtheHill except for the eye candy pejorative ;-)
Vista does infact bring something to the plate beyond eye candy.

If you want to find out about particular laptops, go to their Support Forums.
I look at the Fujitsu Siemens forum, & wouldn't buy one of those. Even though I have a FS work laptop, & work for Siemens, (nothing to do with Fujitsu Siemens I'm glad to say)
Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.
