Im trying re-install windows xp and in the process, after "collecting" information," "Dynamic Update," and "preparing insatllation" it would stop in the middle of the "Installing Windows" part an error message come up that says:
ERROR:SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "E:\l386\asms\10\msft\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS.MAN" on line 4
xxx
Error:
Istallation Failed: E\l386\asms. Error message: Incorrect Function
xxxFatal Error: One of the components that windows needs to comtinue setup could not be installed.
incorrect function
I need some serious help i would die without my computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have not seen that error before. i assume you have checked the disc for dirt / damage.
also most errors on installing are caused by ram. even ram that seems to work fine within windows can cause problems when installing. if you have more than one stick in there, try it with one stick only. if still a problem, try the other stick. also in my experience, disabling all the peripherals in the bios can help eg. usb/sound/network socket, and then enable them one at a time after windows installed in case one of those is causing a problem

What is your E drive? Your installation CD? Have you confirmed it's not damaged? What steps exactly are you following to install? Are you repartitioning and formatting before attempting to reinstall?
