My CD drive isn't working and from what I can gather it seems to be a problem with the drivers. I've not got much idea about this kind of thing, can someone tell me how to reinstall them?

Win98 has a built in driver for CD drives. To see if it's possibly a hardware problem, boot from a win98 startup floppy and see if you can access it from Dos.

in case you do not already know this - when you boot from a windows 98 floppy boot disk, your cd rom drive letter will normally be one letter higher. If your hard drive is C , that will stay as C. but if your CD rom is D, that will jump to E whilst in this mode. It is something to do with the boot disc creating a virtual drive D temporarily just whilst you are in this mode.

I am having a very hard time with my cd rom, i came back from a trip to ontario and now it is not reading it. I unplugged it from the mother board, and made sure that it was not being recignized, but it still won't let me do it, it tells me to insert the windows 98SE disk so i do and then it tells me that it is not there. please e-mail me if you can help. Thank you
