i recently reinstalled xp pro to my c:drive(40gig) and also have a 300gig as d: drive. after it all installed i looked at my d: drive too access files. it said i needed to format... what........ if i do that i will loose everything.i looked at management and said it was healthy.. ive done this 100's of times and this is the 1st time it said i needed to format 2nd drive.. i transfered all my important data to the 2nd drive D: -- anyway to access it without formating ? helppppppp email

It sounds like (in order of likelihood) corrupt file system, dying hard drive, or bad hard drive controller on motherboard.
To test the last one, move the drive to another PC. If it still doesn't read, it's a bad drive or corrupt files system - likely due to the system being shut down before it finished writing updates to the files system. You would need to try jumping into DOS (NTFS for DOS) or perhaps inserting into a Linux system to try reading the file system.

Summary: The system freezes on and off, just right after the computer finishing loading XP. I can move the mouse for lets say 2 seconds, and then it freezes for 10 seconds. It's an clean XP Pro install w/SP2....
